My name is Carina and I am a 6th year Visual Communication Design/International Studies student at UTS. I am about to embark this semester on Major Project- a designed research project with a physical design response. Originally, I am from the Liverpool Plains- one of Australia’s top food producing areas, where the community have been fighting the NSW Government for the past 6 years about the destruction of valuable land for the production of Coal Seam Gas.
I am passionate about exhibition and event design and I chose this topic about CSG because I believe that it could make a difference, no matter how small, in the world. I also believe that many people make uninformed/educated opinions about topics that they don’t understand or are scared of them, and it is up to us as designers to communicate to these people through a medium that they may comprehend. One incomprehensible topic for many people is science, and in particular climate change. It makes sense to me that if I can communicate important information through design to this audience, then already I’m making a difference.
